Environmental Assessment

Since Hurricane Katrina, the Port of Gulfport (POG) has completed over $500 million in improvements which included expanding its facilities and modernizing its operations. The POG Access Project will not only help the Port realize its new through-put capacity by providing a direct intermodal connection to the national highway infrastructure, but will also provide additional capacity for the Port’s continued growth for many years to come.

The POG Access Project will generally consist of approximately 1.2 miles of roadway improvements including a 160- foot grade separated bridge over U.S. Highway 90, pavement strengthening along 30th Avenue, new signalization, access management improvements and implementation of Intelligent Transportation Systems.

The DE team was tasked to perform an Environmental Assessment (EA) in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) guidelines for this project. To complete this EA, the DE team is conducting the following tasks:

  • Surveying

  • Conceptual Design

  • Bridge Aesthetics

  • Traffic Engineering Analysis

  • Noise and Vibration Study

  • Air Quality and Emissions Study

  • Supporting Studies (wetland delineation/biological assessment/cultural resource survey/etc)

  • ROW/Location

  • NEPA Report
