Jefferson Parish Treecycling Program 2026
DE team members rolled up their sleeves this past weekend on Saturday, January 24, 2026, volunteering at the annual Jefferson Parish TreeCycling event in Lafitte, Louisiana. Each year, this program collects donated Christmas trees from Jefferson Parish residents and places them along shorelines in the Barataria Basin. The initiative delivers multiple community benefits, diverting trees from landfills while creating natural wave-dampening barriers that help reduce coastal erosion and support critical wildlife habitat. As a community-driven initiative, TreeCycling allows residents to take part in a practical, hands-on solution that helps protect Louisiana’s vulnerable coastline.
DE Principal and Water Resources Practice Lead, Andrew Woodroof, P.E., noted: "Our coastlines are our first line of defense against storm surge, provide critical habitat for wildlife, and create recreational opportunities for our communities. Events like the Jefferson Parish Treecycling event not only protect our coastline but are an excellent opportunity to connect the communities to the coast."

A big thank you to our DE team members (and community members!) who participated and placed a total of 3,700 trees this year.
