Yesterday City Park officials broke ground on a new 10' wide multi-use bike path that will be constructed along Marconi Drive between Harrison Avenue and Robert E. Lee Boulevard.
The bike path will be similar in nature to the path that runs along Wisner Boulevard and has been designed to be utilized by both bicyclists and pedestrians. Other improvements include the installation of drainage structures, ADA compliant handicap ramps and cross walks, and roadway striping. The construction contract was awarded to Command Construction in the amount of $698,888 and Digital Engineering will be providing the construction engineering and inspection.
The majority of the funding for this project was provided through a federal grant administered by the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development. Additional funds were provided by the group, Friends of City Park.
